Lines of Research
Since 2004, there have been changes in the course design based on reports by CAPES and the Army Engineering and Construction Department's guidelines. Since then, there have been two areas of concentration: Transportation Planning and Operation, dating from 1977, and Transportation Infrastructure.
The Transportation Planning and Operation concentration area deals with the teaching, research and development of scientific and technological models applicable to the planning and operation of the various modes and systems of cargo and passenger transportation at national, regional, and urban. This area of concentration has the following Research Lines:
Operation of Transportation Systems
It covers the development and application of methods and techniques of analytical modeling, heuristics and computational simulation to evaluate integrated transport systems and their planning. It also includes the analysis of environmental impacts caused by transportation projects operation, relevant legislation, methods for assessment and mitigation measures of environmental liabilities.
Transport Planning
It includes the study and development of transportation planning models and techniques related to demand forecasting, land use, integration of different modes of transport and its economic aspects. It also covers the analysis of the environmental impacts caused by the installation and operation of transportation projects, relevant legislation, methods for assessment and mitigation measures of the environmental liabilities.
Infraestructure of Transportation Systems
It aims to study and develop materials and techniques to be used in the design, construction, maintenance and management of roads, railways, waterways, pipelines, ports and airports. It covers studies and projects related to the structure, rivers hydraulics, waterway constructions, road works, railway works, port works, and technical, economic and environmental feasibility studies.
Materials and Structures for Transportation
This line of research studies the behavior of materials and structures used in transportation Infrastructure. The objective of this line of research is the development of procedures for design of current and special constructions, such as bridges, footbridges and paving works.
