General Information on Graduate Programs

IME offers Masters and Doctorate programs to Brazilian and foreign military personnel and civilians. Admissions are according to the following criteria:

• Regulatory Instructions for Registration, Selection and Enrollment as determined on IRISM / CPG (IR 80-03), for civilian candidates, military of the other Brazilian Armed Forces and Military of Friendly Nations (ONA); and
• Regulatory Instructions for Brazilian Army military candidates as determined on EB80-IR-07.008.

The programs at IME are full-day.  Working hours of the administrative staff ranges from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and from 07:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m on Fridays. The school year consists of three (3) periods of 14 weeks. The programs are carried out under a credit scheme.  For their completion, it is required at least 18 credits for the master's degree and 27 credits for the doctorate and defense of a master's thesis or doctoral thesis. Each credit corresponds to a period of 15-hour classes. The deadlines for completion of courses are 24 (twenty four) months for the master's and 36 (thirty six) months for the doctorate degrees.

The courses offered at IME are free.  Scholarships by government agencies that support teaching and research (CAPES, CNPq, FAPERJ, and others) are possible for civilian candidates. Click here for more information.
