Course Description

The Master's in Transportation aims at providing solid knowledge and skills in the planning, design, operation, maintenance and infrastructures of transportation systems. This knowledge enables students  to face the challenges of current and future problems and prepares them not only as knowledge multipliers of what was learned but also as leaders in the area.

In 1977, the program was created with resources from the Executive Board for the Implementation of the Transportation Policy (GEIPOT), based on the positive results of rail and port transportation specialization courses. This pioneer program in the area of transportation in Brazil was first accredited in 1980.

From the beginning of the 1990s on, the Brazilian Army started financing the program with public funds from the federal government and from the Brazilian Army itself.  Since the late 1990s and up to this day, funds have also been provided by traditional bodies for the promotion of teaching and research such as CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), FINEP  (Funding Authority for Studies and Projects), FAPERJ (Rio de Janeiro State Research Support Foundation) and other federal and state institutions such as the Ministry of Transportation, DNIT and the State of Rio de Janeiro Department of Transportation.

The Course presents two areas of concentration:

Planning and Operation of Transportation and Transportation Infrastructure which present 04 lines of Research.
