Selection Criteria

RULES FOR THE MASTER PROGRAM

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

 

a) Candidates with any bachelor´s degree may apply.

b) Exams on Portuguese and English languages are mandatory. 

c) Applicants will also be assessed based on the documentation delivered (Lattes curriculum, letters of recommendation, transcripts, research proposal, etc.). Scores from 0.0 to 5.0 will be assigned to all candidates  according to an assessment spreadsheet. This score will be a criterion for admission and also one of the criteria for scholarship awardings.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER’S DEGREE

 

In addition to the requirements of the Normas Internas dos Cursos de Pós-Graduação (NICPG), that apply to all IME graduate students, master’s students enrolled in the Materials Science Program have to meet the following requirements:

a) Students should take a least three of the following courses:

- Ciência dos Materiais (Materials Science)

- Ensaios dos Materiais (Materials Testing)

- Técnicas Experimentais em Ciência dos Materiais (Experimental Methods in Materials  Science)

- Termodinâmica dos Materiais (Thermodynamics of Materials)

- Engenharia Microestrutural (Microstructural Engineering)

- Cristalografia e Difração de Raios X (Crystallography and X-ray Diffraction)

- Comportamento Mecânico dos Materiais I (Mechanical Behavior of Materials I)

b) Students are not allowed to take the course Problemas Especiais (Special Problems) for more than 1 credit; in addition, they should have a Cumulative Grade Point Average larger than or equal to 3.0 and a number of credits earned larger than or equal to 18.

c)  Students are not allowed to request transfer of credits earned in other institution or in other IME Programs unless they have a Cumulative Grade Point Average larger than or equal to 3.0.

d) Students should take the course Seminário (Seminar) and earn the mention S (Satisfactory) at least three times.
